We're looking for an Engineering Manager who loves solving hard engineering problems, building great teams, and creating systems that don't break when millions of people depend on them.
Someone who can think architecture, get into the code, mentor engineers, and take complete ownership of what gets shipped.

THE OPPORTUNITY: LEAD TEAMS. BUILD SYSTEMS. ENGINEER FOR MILLIONS.
You'll lead the backend engineering team powering Habuild's growing ecosystem, building technology that supports millions of people on their wellness journeys.
From architecting distributed systems to building a team that ships fast without compromising quality, you'll shape how we build, scale, and evolve our products.
You'll make critical technical decisions, solve complex engineering challenges, and create systems that are reliable, scalable, and ready for what's next.
But this isn't a role where you simply manage timelines and attend meetings.
We want someone who can go deep into the code, challenge technical decisions, unblock engineers, and lead from the front.

01. BUILD A TEAM THAT BUILDS GREAT THINGS
Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing backend engineering team. Hire great engineers, raise the technical bar, and build a culture where people take ownership, challenge ideas, and consistently deliver.
02. ARCHITECT FOR MILLIONS, NOT THOUSANDS
Design and scale high-performance backend systems using Node.js. Make architecture decisions that balance scalability, reliability, speed, and long-term maintainability.
03. MAKE DISTRIBUTED SYSTEMS WORK
Build and evolve microservices-based architectures. Solve complex challenges involving service communication, fault tolerance, consistency, and distributed system performance.
04. BUILD SYSTEMS THAT REACT IN REAL TIME
Own event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar messaging systems. Build reliable asynchronous workflows, efficient event-processing pipelines, and systems that remain resilient under heavy loads.
05. SET THE ENGINEERING BAR
Drive technical excellence across system design, code quality, testing, and engineering practices. Review critical designs, challenge assumptions, and establish standards that help the team build better software.
06. TURN PRODUCT IDEAS INTO ENGINEERING REALITY
Work closely with product, design, and business teams to translate ambitious ideas into scalable technical solutions. Balance execution speed with engineering quality and help the team ship meaningful improvements consistently.
07. OWN WHAT HAPPENS AFTER WE SHIP
Take responsibility for system reliability, performance, availability, and observability. Identify bottlenecks before they become problems, optimise infrastructure, and ensure our systems perform when it matters most.
08. MAKE SHIPPING FASTER AND SMARTER
Partner with DevOps and infrastructure teams to improve CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, deployments, and developer productivity. Build an engineering environment where shipping reliable software becomes easier every day.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for someone with 8+ years of backend engineering experience, including meaningful experience leading engineers, owning technical decisions, and building production systems at scale.
You should bring strong hands-on expertise in Node.js, a deep understanding of microservices and distributed systems, and experience building event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar technologies.
You'll be comfortable working with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, along with modern infrastructure technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
Beyond the technology, we're looking for someone who understands system design, scalability, performance optimisation, and reliability. Someone who can review architecture, debug complex problems, mentor engineers, and make sound technical decisions.
Most importantly, you should be able to bring engineering, product, and business teams together, communicate clearly, and take complete ownership of outcomes.
High ownership, first-principles thinking, and a bias for action are non-negotiable.
BONUS POINTS IF:
You've built something from scratch, contributed to open source, or have personal applications running in production.
You've worked on B2C products at significant scale, still genuinely enjoy coding, or are passionate about wellness, fitness, and technology that changes everyday behaviour.
